Water Trading Options: Insights from the Farmer Forum

Updated: Jul 15, 2025

A Successful Gathering for Local Farmers

Water Partners held its first Farmer Forum at its Kyabram offices on 6 March. This event provided a great opportunity for local farmers to connect over dinner. They learned valuable information about water trading options available to them.

We were thrilled to host guest speakers Cassandra and Andrew Kath. The Kaths manage a dairy farm where they milk 500 cows at Nanneella. They shared their experiences using a combination of leased water and forward allocations to ensure reliable water availability. This strategy helps mitigate the risks associated with reduced seasonal allocations.

Learning from Experience

The Kaths were very open in sharing valuable insights about their farming operation. They discussed how they collaborated with Water Partners to finalize their unique combination package. This transparency provided a wonderful learning experience for all attendees.

Farmers in the audience also actively participated. They shared the options they currently use, as well as what they are considering. This exchange of information created a rich environment for learning. Many attendees gathered additional insights from the Water Partners team on how various water trading options could work best for their specific situations.

Looking Ahead: Future Farmer Forum

Water Partners is excited to announce that another Farmer Forum is scheduled for May. We encourage the community to suggest topics of interest that they would like to see covered. Your input is vital in helping us plan an event that is both informative and relevant.

Keep an eye on our social media channels and your inbox for updates regarding the date. We look forward to seeing many familiar faces, as well as new ones. Engaging discussions and learning opportunities await!

Water Trading Benefits

Water trading provides farmers with various options to manage their water needs effectively. It allows for flexibility during times of scarcity, ensuring that farmers can adapt to changing conditions. By understanding and leveraging these options, farmers can make informed decisions and enhance their operations.

The experience shared by the Kaths highlights the importance of collaboration within the farming community. Learning from one another can pave the way for better water management strategies.

Why Participate?

Attending forums like this can greatly benefit farmers. Networking with peers allows for the exchange of ideas and best practices. Furthermore, engaging with experts can clarify complex issues surrounding water trading. Often, hearing firsthand experiences is the most impactful.

Don't miss out on our upcoming events. They are invaluable opportunities to learn and grow.
