Lauren Forsythe came to Australia on a working holiday visa 7 years ago and loved working in agriculture so much she stayed.
Originally from a farm in northern Ireland, where her family breeds and shows stud cattle, Lauren started working on a farm in Mooroopna as part of her visa. Although she briefly moved to a region for a new job, her newfound passion for farming saw her return to the country.
Lauren says her passion for farming is matched by her longtime love of hockey, something that has seen her make deep friendships in Australia.
“I’ve played hockey since I was in school and when I moved to Australia it was initially hard to make friends so I joined a local club."
Lauren has represented the Goulburn Valley team in the Water Partners Senior Country Hockey Championships.
“It’s a fast-paced game that takes a lot of skill and a great team sport. There’s a great community behind it too.”
Lauren said hockey also provided a great opportunity to get off farm and have a break from work.
“It can be hard to meet more people when you’re on the farm and through hockey I’ve met lifelong friends.”
Water Partners, a not-for-profit company, provides valuable resources to the agricultural sector, including free education on water trading, expert advice on integrating water trading into business operations, and 24/7 access to water trading platforms displaying current market prices.
"As a not-for-profit built by farmers, we understand the vital role sport plays in rural and regional communities," said Donna Mulcahy, CEO of Water Partners.
"The Senior Country Championships offer a fantastic opportunity for players of all ages to represent their communities and compete.
"We're proud to support everyone involved. Irrigated agriculture is the lifeblood of these communities, and Water Partners is committed to supporting the individuals who drive quality produce, create employment, and contribute to strong, healthy regions."
